And then—boom. The August nights get cooler. We get the urge to cozy up, light candles, and put on a big pot of soup. We break out the knit sweaters and head out pumpkin picking, hanging skeleton faces on the front door and stringing pumpkin lights across the room.

Soon enough, the pumpkins disappear to make room for an extra-large vintage Santa face. The house smells like sugar cookies and pie, brass Christmas bells chime, and nutcrackers guard every room.
